Weathering Damage Analysis and Monitoring
نویسنده
چکیده
Several operative limitations are involved in the quantitative evaluation of damage processes. To plan an intervention, the assessment of the state of conservation appears incomplete without a realistic estimation. Stone and brick and above all sculptured surfaces and paintings need characterization, quantification, interpretation and rating of the weathering. In this field the use of non destructive techniques, including the monitoring of decay processes, are requested to evaluate the damage. The ICAW technique (Integrated Computerized Analysis of Weathering) covers entirely the most critical aspects of monuments conservation and allows to monitor the evolution in time of decay processes as well as efficiency and limits of recovery treatment. The technique is able to detect objectively the weathering forms and the relative “buried structures” to assess the rate of weathering and to classify the decayed material. The qualitative and quantitative evaluation of damage can be expressed by “damage categories”; the relative maps, indeed, that can be obtained, depict: i) the weathering forms, ii) the intensity of surface damage, iii) the assessment of damage in depth. The ICAW methodology, extended to laser cleaning control and colorimetry, is employable to assess the effectiveness in time of conservation treatment and to plan maintenance intervention.

The effect of cyclic salt weathering test on deterioration potential of granitoid rocks
In this study, the salt weathering effects on engineering properties and weight loss potential of three types of granitoid rocks were investigated. Sodium and magnesium sulfates tests were performed on core and aggregate samples. The cyclic salt weathering tests on core samples were done up to 90 cycles, while these tests on aggregate samples were done up to 40 cycles. The results showed that d...
متن کاملDamage Assessment in Railway Sub-structures Deteriorated Using Ae Technique
Due to earthquakes, differential settlement and long-term weathering, civil structures have sustained deterioration. In super-structures located above ground, except for seriously damaged structures, evaluation of moderately or intermediately damaged structures is difficult. In sub-structures the damage would not be readily assessed even for severely damaged structures. AE testing has a potenti...
متن کاملHealth Monitoring of Welded Steel Pipes by Vibration Analysis
In the present work, structure health monitoring (SHM) of welded steel pipes was used to diagnosis their state via vibration based damage detection techniques. The dynamic quantities such as Frequency Response Functions (FRFs), mode shapes and modal parameters from structural vibration to detect damage were measured, set on linear averaging mode, with a maximum frequency of analysis of 3.2 kHz....
متن کاملComparison between Salt crystallization weathering test and natural weathering in Mesozoic’s anisotropic rocks, a case study: Arakʾs Calcareous slates, Iran
Salt crystallization can severely damage anisotropic foliated rocks, therefore it is necessary to have an understanding of crystallization process. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of salt crystallization on Arakʾs calcareous slates, as anisotropic rocks of Mesozoic. To compare salt crystallization weathering (EN 12370 norm was used up to 30 cycles) with natural weather...
